Olympic medalist gets 3-month ban for accidental doping
Olympic silver medalist Devin Logan is serving a three-month suspension for using a cannabis-based product that contained higher-than-allowed levels of the banned substance, THC.
Logan, who won the silver medal in slopestyle at the Sochi Games in 2014, will come off suspension next Wednesday.
She tested positive at an event in December. She used a Cannabidiol (CBD) product, the likes of which athletes are increasingly using to treat pain.
But the product contained more THC than the label suggested, leading to the positive test.
Logan said the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency told her it was a first-of-its-kind case; she took an education course to have a six-month sanction reduced to three months.
Logan told The Associated Press she wants others to know about her case so they won’t make similar mistakes.
