University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has signed an eight-year contract extension with men’s basketball coach Roy Williams, the school announced Wednesday. Under the terms of the deal, Williams is signed through the 2027-28 season, with his annual salary increasing to $800,000 by that time.

UNC athletics director Bubba Cunningham made the announcement in a written statement that was posted to the school’s website.

“I’m grateful and humbled in the university’s continued faith in my leadership of the basketball program,” Williams said in the statement.

UNC also extended contracts for Anson Dorrance (women’s soccer), Mike Fox (baseball), Jenny Levy (women’s lacrosse), Brian Kalbas (women’s tennis), Sam Paul (men’s tennis) and Carlos Somoano (men’s soccer) – each re-signed through 2023 – and Coleman Scott (wrestling), re-signed through 2021.

Williams’ contract details bonuses for basketball performance, including $250,000 for a national championship, academic progress for his players and annual “supplemental compensation” that ranges from $1.7 million for 2018-19 to $2.15 million in 2027-28.
