Argentine-bred Bayakoa won the $200,000 Vanity Handicap by fi

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Argentine-bred Bayakoa won the $200,000 Vanity Handicap by five lengths at Hollywood Park on Saturday to extend her winning streak to five.

Bayakoa, ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr., went to the lead at the start and no rival threatened as she went the 1 1/8 miles over a fast track in 1:47 1-5, two-fifths off the track record.

Flying Julia, ridden by Gary Stevens, chased Bayakoa into the stretch but had to settle for second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Goodbye Halo in the invitational field of six fillies and mares.

Bayakoa, carrying high weight of 125 pounds, was sent off as the odds-on favorite and returned $3.40, $2.80 and $2.40. Flying Julia paid $3.80 and $2.80. Goodbye Halo, with Corey Black and 122, paid $2.40.

The 5-year-old Bayakoa ran second to Miss Brio in the Santa Maria on Jan. 28 at Santa Anita, then won the Santa Margarita at Santa Anita, the Apple Blossom at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas, and the Hawthorne and Milady handicaps here.

Rosadora broke second and trailed Bayakoa until tiring in the stretch. She finished fourth, followed by Carita Tostada and Hollywood Glitter.

Bayakoa won $110,000 for owners Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitham of Leoti, Kan., boosting her career earnings to $753,614. She has won 11 times in 22 starts with six second-place finishes.
