Funeral Sunday for attorney known for work on tribal issues
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Funeral services have been scheduled for a North Dakota attorney known for his work on American Indian issues.
Tom Disselhorst was killed in a vehicle crash near Richardton on Dec. 30. His funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday in the James Henry Gymnasium at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck.
Disselhorst was staff attorney for nearly four decades for the college run by North Dakota tribes. He also taught hundreds of students through the years.
Disselhorst also provided legal counsel for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and the Three Affiliated Tribes. He worked on numerous issues including construction of the Four Bears Bridge over the Missouri River at New Town, passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act in 1988 and on tribal-state gambling compacts in North Dakota.
