DENVER (AP) _ The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Milan Hejduk to a multiyear contract Wednesday, just one day before training camp begins.

Terms of the deal, reached late Tuesday, were not disclosed.

``I wanted to reach an agreement as soon as possible and be ready to go for training camp,'' he said.

Hejduk, 24, who made $690,000 last season, scored a team-high 36 goals and finished second to Joe Sakic with 72 points, playing in all 82 regular-season games. He scored five goals during the playoffs, tying him for second on the team.
