WESTCONN ROUNDUP Colonials blank Eastern

September 27, 2018

The WestConn women’s soccer team claimed its first shutout of the season, getting eight saves from Alexis Lainchbury in a 2-0 win over Eastern Connecticut Wednesday night at home. The Colonials snapped a two-game skid and improved to 2-1 in the LEC with the win (3-6 overall).

Both of the goals came in the second half as Kaleigh Panek and Bailey McCollum found the back of the net for the hosts. The two teams shared the LEC regular season title a year ago.

WestConn plays its next five games on the road, starting with Saturday’s trip to Southern Maine.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Colonials found themselves on the wrong side of a thriller as a five-goal first half led to a 4-3 defeat to Eastern on the road. WestConn scored the first two goals but yielded the next four goals, including three in the first half.

Danbury High grad Darion Richeme netted a pair of goals in the defeat for the Colonials, who dropped to 5-2-2 with the result.
