Eleanor Mutterer, 90, Waupaca

Eleanor Rachel Martha ‘Hookstead’ Mutterer, 90, Waupaca, died Aug. 20, 2018, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Waupaca.

She was born April 9, 1928, to George and Helen (Kutz) Hookstead in Whitewater. She graduated from DMLC in 1945 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Dr. Martin Luther College in education and music.

Eleanor was a Lutheran elementary school teacher and also served as organist at Immanuel Lutheran School in Mankato, Minnesota, Trinity Lutheran School in Waukesha, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prescott, Salem Lutheran Church in Woodbury, Minnesota, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, St. Andrew’s Lutheran School in St. Paul Park, Minnesota, St. John’s Lutheran School in Fox Lake, St. Matthew’s Lutheran School in Winona, Minnesota, Buffalo Lutheran School in Cochrane, and Immanuel Lutheran School in Waupaca.

She married Frederick Mutterer on June 1, 1952, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Milton.

Eleanor will be long remembered for her friendly, outgoing personality. She loved to fish, play games, played the piano beautifully and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed corresponding with many family and friends who were happy to receive her beautifully written long letters. Above all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Fritz, of 66 years; her children, Timothy Mutterer of Racine, Elizabeth (Thomas) Vershowske of Wales, David (Lori) Mutterer of Arcadia; grandchildren, Megan, Ben, Jon, Becca, Aaron, Carrie (Craig), Heather and Zach; great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Aiden, Hazel, Joshua, and Elizabeth; and brother, Bernard (Beverly) Hookstead of Milton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ginny.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover, with the Rev. Scott Wolfram presiding. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, D1720 Oxbo Road, Stratford, Wisconsin.
