NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is up 35 points in today's early going. Advancing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 6-5 lead over decliners.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is ahead 50 points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index is up five points.

With new reason for hope in the Middle East, investors have lost one excuse for selling today.

But others remain.

In particular, investors have been on edge about Intel's quarterly numbers, due after today's closing bell.

Still, there are some favorable items for the market. Citigroup, Caterpillar and J&J all have posted better-than-expected earnings.

European markets turned higher today, after Israeli and Palestinian leaders agreed to work for an end to the violence that has wracked the Middle East.
