‘Dynasty’ Star Weds in Nepalese Jungle
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ ″Dynasty″ star Pamela Bellwood wed photojournalist Nik Wheeler in a colorful ceremony performed over the Christmas holiday by a Buddhist priest in a Nepalese jungle, her publicist said Wednesday.
The Dec. 30 wedding culminated an eight-year romance between Wheeler and Ms. Bellwood, who plays Claudia Carrington in the popular ABC prime-time soap, said publicist Marilyn Heston.
″It was all planned quite quickly,″ Ms. Heston said.
The ceremony was held next to a reflecting pool ″30 minutes upriver″ from the Tiger Tops resort owned by best man Jim Edwards, Ms. Heston said. Resort guests stay in treehouse-like structures affording a view of the jungle flora and fauna, she said.
The bride, groom and best man arrived on elephants painted in the Nepalese tradition. Ms. Bellwood, 35, wore a rose-and-pink ball gown she had bought at Harrod’s in London on her way to Nepal. The gown was designed by the Emmanuels, who created Princess Diana’s wedding gown.
The bride also wore a red veil and white wedding beads, traditional bridal garb in Nepal, Ms. Heston said.
Witnesses who shared a champagne lunch after the ceremony included the American consul to Nepal and his wife, who flew in from the capital city of Katmandu.
″It was unique,″ Ms. Heston quoted Ms. Bellwood as saying. ″No one has ever been married there or will ever be married there again. It was a beautiful and magical moment, a learning experience, an instructive time which is going to be very helpful in our lives.″
The newlyweds left almost immediately so that Ms. Bellwood could rejoin the ″Dynasty″ set. They live in the Hollywood Hills with Wheeler’s 15-year- old son, Adam.
Ms. Heston said it is the second marriage for both Ms. Bellwood and Wheeler, 42, a free-lance photographer affiliated with the SIPA photo agency.
