11 ways to celebrate mom this Mother’s Day in Raleigh, Durham, beyond
My family will be celebrating Mother’s Day on the soccer field at two soccer tournaments this weekend. But if six to eight soccer games aren’t on your schedule for this weekend, here are a few ways to celebrate moms across the Triangle.
Marbles Kids Museum will host a Mother’s Day Makeshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, May 12. Craft a corsage, make a mom portrait, complete a mom mad lib and plant some flowers in honor of mom. It’s free with admission, which is $7 per person.
A couple of breweries will be offering Mother’s Day yoga sessions. At House of Hops, it’s 11 a.m. to noon, Sunday, May 12. A suggested donation of $10 is encouraged. And Clouds Brewing hosts Taproom Momaste from 11 a.m. to noon, Sunday, May 12. It’s $10 for an hour of yoga and a drink ticket.
Oaks and Spokes will host a Mother’s Day Ride from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, May 12, starting in downtown Raleigh. All levels of riders welcome. The ride will go from downtown Raleigh to JC Ralston Arboretum.
For the eighth year, Run Like a Mother takes off at Kerr YMCA on Sunday, May 12. Online race registration closes at 9 a.m., Friday, May 10, but registration will be available at packet pickup on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The morning includes a one-mile run for kids and and a 5K.
Carolina Theatre will host a Mother’s Day Film Series this Friday through Sunday that features movie with great female characters and inspirational stories. Movies include “The Joy Luck Club,” “Little Women,” “Steel Magnolias” and “Throw Momma From the Train.” Movies are rated PG, PG-13 and R. Tickets are $9.50.
Bull City Mini Golf, a pop-up mini golf course, opens up this weekend. Hours are noon to 10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. It’s at American Tobacco Campus in the old Bullpen spot next to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Mini golf will be $7 per person and free for kids under 5. On Sunday, they’ll be giving away free mini bundt cakes for moms (until they run out), courtesy of Bull City Confectionary.
Downtown Cary Food and Flea will host a Mother’s Day Market from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 12. There will be food trucks and items from more than 60 local artisans.
The Business and Professional Women/Triangle Foundation will present a Mother’s Day Market at Mayton Inn from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 11. The day includes opportunities to learn more about a dozen local women-owned businesses, activities for kids, free ice cream and baked goods and more. It’s free.
The Wake Forest Garden Club will host a Mad Hatter’s Tea on Saturday, May 11. Tickets start at $20 and include finger sandwiches, fine teas and sweets in an Alice in Wonderland theme.
Carolina Mudcats will celebrate Mother’s Day during its 2 p.m., Sunday, May 12, game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. There will be a Mother’s Day pregame catch on the field. It’s also Five County Family Sunday. Box seats are $5 for anyone living in the five county area.
