LaVonne Diane Young, age 59, of Rochester, passed away after a short stay at Seasons Hospice House on Sept. 10, 2018. LaVonne had fought a courageous seven-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
LaVonne loved children, family, friends and her church. LaVonne was always very positive, loving and always had a smile. Her deep faith provided great comfort to her in her final days.
LaVonne had a lifelong love of all things cows. She met her husband, Mark, 50 years ago in the 4-H dairy barn in Faribault. They recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.
LaVonne received her nursing degree at Rochester Vocational School (now RCTC) in 1980 and was an L.P.N. She worked at Mayo Clinic for 38 years. LaVonne became a student at the United Theological Seminary in 2014 with a goal to become an ordained minister. She received an Honorary Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary three days prior to her death.
Upon her death, LaVonne donated her body to Mayo Clinic to continue her love of teaching and to allow medical staff to continue to learn and provide the best medical care to their patients.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Meyer, Jr.; her nephews, Aaric and Aaron Meyer; brother-in-law, Steven Brudvig; and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Mark; her mother, Norma Meyer; brother, Alan (Sharon) Meyer; sisters, Cindy (Jess) Donohoe and Gayle (Brian) Bauer; and a large extended family.
A celebration of LaVonne’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Congregational Church UCC in Rochester. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 and one hour before the service at the Congregational Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Congregational Church UCC, Seasons Hospice, or United Theological Seminary.
In honor of LaVonne, the family requests you wear crazy socks or flip flops for her service.
