Three Lebanese Convicted Of Smuggling Explosives
TRIESTE, Italy (AP) _ A court has convicted three Lebanese on charges of smuggling a load of plastic explosives into Italy, court officials reported.
Abdullah Mansouri, 20, was sentenced to 16 years in prison, while Josephine Abdo Sarkis, 27, and Daher Feriol Fayez, 24, drew 15 years each. They were also fined the equivalent of $500 each.
Fayez and another Lebanese, Jaqueline Esber, 25, were tried in absentia. The court dropped charges against Esber for lack of evidence.
The prosecution had charged that the defendants were members of a Lebanese terrorist gang known as the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions, but the court convicted them only on the charge of smuggling explosives into the country.
Mansouri was also found guilty of using a false passport and making false statements about his identity.
