4th defendant sentenced in robbery attempt turned deadly
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — The fourth and final person charged in connection with a robbery attempt that turned into a deadly shooting in Connecticut five years ago has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The New Haven Register reports that 20-year-old Thomaine Riddick was sentenced Wednesday in the January 2014 shooting death in New Haven of Durell Law. Riddick, who was 15 at the time but tried as an adult, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. Prosecutors say he was not involved with the gun used to kill Law.
Police say four people surrounded Law outside an apartment complex and tried to rob him. The victim was shot in the back as he fled.
The gunman and the person who handed him the gun were both previously convicted of murder.
