Firefighters rally, cut hair for colleague with cancer
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Firefighters in New Hampshire are fundraising and shaving their heads in support of a colleague who was diagnosed with cancer last year.
Manchester firefighter Mike Meehan was diagnosed with cancer in October, and members of the Manchester Fire Department lined up to get their hair cropped short to show support for Meehan. WMUR-TV reports members of the fire crew are also selling $20 shirts to help offset the cost of Meehan’s medical bills.
The shirts are available for purchase with cash at the Manchester firehouse, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Meehan.
Meehan says he hopes to return to the front lines after his remaining chemotherapy treatments.
