Hebrew University Names Physics Professor As President
JERUSALEM (AP) _ Hanoch Gutfreund, a Polish-born physics professor, was named president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on Monday.
Gutfreund, 57, was elected unanimously by the board of governors to succeed Yoram Ben-Porath, who died last October in an auto accident, a university statement said. He has been acting president since Ben-Porath’s death.
Gutfreund received his Ph.D. from Hebrew University and joined the academic staff in 1966. His field is theoretical physics.
