Family of five killed in early morning fire
DUNN, N.C. (AP) _ A family of five died early Monday in a fire that swept through their home while it was being remodeled.
The three children and their parents had moved into the rented house just three days earlier, before the remodeling was complete, because they needed a home right away, landlord J.W. Moore said.
He said he had not yet installed smoke detectors because the ceilings weren’t finished.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Neighbors said it took just minutes for flames to engulf the house.
``Whoever was in the house did not have a chance of surviving,″ Fire Chief Austin Tew said.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
