Univ. of Mass. Hires Dacko As Coach

April 11, 2002

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) _ Marnie Dacko, who spent the last seven seasons at Cornell, was hired Thursday as head coach at Massachusetts.

She leaves Cornell with an 80-104 record, making her the program’s career leader in wins.

Dacko was Ivy League Coach of the Year in 1996, and led the Big Red to a program-best 15 wins in 2000-01. Cornell finished 14-13 last season.

Before coaching the Big Red, Dacko was an assistant at Wisconsin, St. John’s and Northwestern. Teams she has been associated with in 24 seasons as a coach have a 400-280 record.

She had a 100 percent graduation rate at Cornell.

Dacko, a 1978 graduate of Southern Connecticut State, replaces Joanie O’Brien, whose contract was not renewed following a 12-18 season.
