First step for Amber Twp.: Process starts to halt recreational marijuana business
AMBER TWP. — The prohibition of recreational marijuana businesses in Amber Township could be brought to a vote as soon as Feb. 12, following a first reading of an opt-out ordinance Tuesday at Amber Town Hall.
The public hearing of the ordinance was held during a special session of the Amber Township Board, where residents were given a chance to speak up and ask questions about the issue.
Township Supervisor James Gallie clarified that only recreational marijuana — not medical marijuana — businesses would be affected by the ordinance.
There had previously been confusion about whether or not medical marijuana would also be prohibited after a notification in Friday’s edition of the Daily News stated that the township was considering banning both. Gallie told the Daily News prior to the meeting that the notification was incorrect.
“This is just for recreational,” Gallie said. “Our attorney said no action was necessary for medical.”
