Zimbabwean Runner Dies After Race
DURBAN, South Africa (AP) _ A Zimbabwean in the Comrades Marathon died Sunday after collapsing during the 55.8-mile race.
Dipack Naik, 45, collapsed 5 miles from the finish of Saturday’s event.
After receiving treatment on the scene, Naik was brought to a hospital where he was treated for multiple organ failure, and died, Dr. Jeremy Boulter, the Comrades Marathon Association medical officer said Sunday.
Naik completed last year’s marathon in 10 hours, 39 minutes. Andre Kelehe of South Africa won Saturday’s race in 5:25.51.
More than 11,000 runners completed the race.
