Lawrence man charged with murder
IRONTON - A Lawrence County man has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting incident at his home late Monday night.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, his office received a call of a possible shooting at 555 Township Road 252 in Ironton at about 11:30 p.m. Monday. Once deputies arrived, they found Homer Fred Crank, 42, lying dead just outside the residence from apparent gunshots to his upper body.
The homeowner, James W. Moore, 49, told deputies that an acquaintance had come to his home and a disturbance followed. Moore was detained and deputies recovered a handgun from him.
A search warrant for the home and property was obtained by detectives, according to Lawless, and the scene is being processed for evidence. Crank’s body has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Detectives have interviewed Moore, who was placed under arrest on a felony charge of first-degree murder and taken to the Lawrence County Jail. Detectives are continuing their investigation.
Moore will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Lawrence County Court in Chesapeake.
