MALIBU, Calif. (AP) _ Chris Johnson scored 17 points as St. Mary’s of California defeated Pepperdine 82-68 Friday night, sending the Waves to their seventh straight loss.

The Gaels (16-9, 9-4 West Coast Conference) snapped a 10-game losing streak at Firestone Fieldhouse dating to 1984. They’ve won 10 of their last 11 games and are tied with Portland for second in the conference with one game remaining.

Pepperdine (7-18, 3-10) equaled its longest losing streak since the 1977-78 season, which was also the last time the Waves finished at the bottom of the conference. They’ve lost three straight at home for the first time since 1978.

St. Mary’s led the entire game, going up 65-43 on a layup by Brent Farris with 6:50 to play. The Gaels shot 56.6 percent from the floor and were 9-of-14 from 3-point range. Farris finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Monte Marcaccini led the Waves with 20 points and Gerald Brown added 18.
