Special ZIP code beer part of Atkinson fundraising event
ATKINSON — Brush Creek Brewing Co. is hosting a fundraising event later this month to help support the Atkinson Community Foundation Fund reach its $300,000 unrestricted endowment campaign goal.
The Atkinson Harvest Festival will be from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, downtown at the brewery here.
“The event will be bushels of fall fun for the whole family. Events will include a hometown barbecue, live music and the debut of Nebraska’s first ZIP code beer ’68713.′ The beer is made from only ingredients homegrown and harvested in Atkinson,” said Shannon Olberding, chair of the advisory committee for the Atkinson fund.
Beer ingredients were harvested and donated by Jessie Poessnecker, Mike Fredrick, Rodney Keim, Steve Brewster and Jaegher and Channing Ogden.
Entertainment will include live music by Ted and Alice Miller and their band. Singers and songwriters, they write songs and create music with a style that blends Americana, folk and old-time music with Ted’s strong affinity for punk rock.
During intermissions, Studio 15 Dance Academy cloggers will perform. There also will be numerous yard games located outside for all ages.
A portion of Main Street will be blocked off east of the brewery. The outside entertainment area will be connected to the brewery’s beer garden.
Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-10 and free for children 5 and under with all proceeds from the “68713” beer will be donated to the endowment fund. The meal will include beef brisket, potatoes, beans and dessert.
The event is being hosted to help the Atkinson Community Foundation Fund reach its $300,000 endowment campaign goal. The fund advisory committee is not only focused on “giving back,” but also “paying it forward” by working towards introducing the idea of a permanent savings account for the community.
Those attending may make a donation the day of the event or donors may contact one of the fund advisory committee members — Lisa Bilstein, Jim Brennan, Nicky Cadwallader, Megan Gotschall, Erin Jelinek, Shannon Olberding and Amanda Sindelar.
Donations also may be mailed to Atkinson Community Foundation Fund, 512 E. Fifth St., Atkinson, NE 68713.
