Immigration raid is underway at greenhouse in O’Neill
O’NEILL - Federal immigration enforcement officers surrounded a tomato greenhouse complex Wednesday morning in an apparent bust of undocumented immigrants.
According to an ICE spokesman they confirmed that it was an “ongoing law enforcement activity” and said that details would be coming later Wednesday.
Shortly before 9 a.m. several ICE law enforcement vehicles arrived at the O’Neill Ventures plant on the northwest edge of O’Neill.
Nebraska state troopers blocked the entrance.
It is a 10-acre hydroponic greenhouse complex capable of producing 250,000 pounds of tomatoes a week.
It reportedly employed about 43 workers as of June.
