Ohio St. Upsets No. 17 Texas, 70-66
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Courtney Coleman scored 21 points and had nine rebounds as Ohio State beat No. 17 Texas 70-66 Sunday.
The Buckeyes (10-2) held the Longhorns (7-4) to two points in the final 1:19 after Texas went on an 11-2 run to pull to 66-64. Caity Matter and Ashley Allen each made two free throws in the last 30 seconds, and Texas didn’t get a shot off in the last 23 seconds.
Ohio State shot 29-for-50 for the game and held Texas to 28-for-67 shooting. The Longhorns shot 10-for-29 in the first half, while Ohio State shot 16-for-26 to take a 36-25 halftime lead.
The Buckeyes took a 39-25 lead on Matter’s 3-pointer to start the second half. But the Longhorns, led by Tai Dillard’s eight points, went on a 21-9 run to cut it to 48-46 with 10:50 to play. Dillard scored all of her points in the run.
Ohio State responded by outscoring Texas 16-7 over the next six minutes to take a 64-53 lead. Coleman scored eight during the stretch.
Kala Bowers and Nina Norman each scored 12 points to lead Texas. Heather Schreiber had 11 points and 11 rebounds, Jamie Carey had 11 points and Stacy Stephens had 10. Allen had 17 for Ohio State and Matter had 12.
