Needville, Fulshear, Stafford collect postseason honors

The Needville, Fulshear and Stafford volleyball teams accounted for every award and all but three first-team spots in the all-District 25-4A voting, with the Blue Jays and Chargers adding a few all-state accolades after reaching the regional championship match.

Needville’s Anna Gadway and Fulshear’s Ellie Echter shared the 25-4A MVP after leading their teams to 11-1 records and a tie for the district crown. Both earned Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state honors, along with Needville’s Madison Schultz, who also took home 25-4A Offensive MVP.

Gadway was an all-around statistical standout, not only leading the Blue Jays with 597 aces (5.2 per set) but amassing 408 kills (3.5), 293 digs (2.5), 43 aces and 55 blocks while hitting .322.

Needville finished 41-9 and came within two set wins of repeating as Class 4A state champions. The Blue Jays defeated Smithville, Boerne, Bellville, La Vernia and Fulshear to make their seventh state tournament, sweeping Midlothian Heritage before a four-set loss to Decatur in the final.

Echter led the Chargers with an exceptional 520 kills, adding 310 digs and 58 aces. In only its second varsity season, Fulshear finished 40-7, captured its first district title and made its best playoff run, eliminating La Grange, Wimberley, Caldwell and Navarro.

Schultz excelled as Needville’s top scorer, amassing a team-high 513 kills (3.8) and 106 aces while hitting .277 with 333 digs (2.5) and 42 blocks.

Fulshear’s Kianna Padilla earned 25-4A Defensive MVP, leading the Chargers with 346 digs and 99 aces.

Needville’s Maddy Hrncir was honored as 25-4A Newcomer of the Year, recording 212 kills, 81 aces, 42 blocks and 111 digs while hitting .301.

Junior outside hitter Kayla Alexander represented Stafford on the all-district first team after an impressive all-around season.

Needville placed three seniors and a junior on the first team, with Tori Eavenson (508 digs, 77 aces, 120 assists), Baley Stavinoha (187 kills, 69 blocks), Samantha Dostal (342 digs, 60 aces) and Evan Stavinoha (159 kills, 40 blocks) making the list.

Fulshear, which graduates only two seniors, placed sophomore Bella Ferrari (266 digs, 178 kills, 79 aces) and juniors Presley Carlson (570 assists, 170 digs), Jalile Rodriguez (45 blocks, 110 kills) and Shelby Tally (132 kills) on the first team.

District 25-4A also had several all-academic students at the district and state level, with Stafford’s Stephanie Amady-Syd, Briana Clark, Chiamaka Nwagboso, Khalijia Fontenot, Skylar Carrier, Asia McKenzie, Madison Collins, Robin Robinson and Tristyn Reed earning all-district academic honors.

Needville placed Gadway, Schultz, Hrncir, Eavenson, Samantha, Baley Stavinoha, Evan Stavinoha, Treasure Ellerbe and Meghan Cernosek on the all-district academic team. Several made the Texas High School Coaches Association all-state academic team, with Dostal, Gadway and Baley Stavinoha on the first team and Eavenson, Schultz, Brianna Nesvadba and Gaby Serrano on the all-state second team.

The TGCA honored East Bernard’s McKenna Novicke and Morgan Whitley with Class 3A all-state selections after the Brahmas reached their fourth consecutive regional tournament. The 13-time state champions finished 31-14 including 12-0 in District 24-3A and defeated Onalaska, Buna and Orangefield in the playoffs.
