Newell High School honors 18 grads

May 21, 2019

NEWELL — The Newell graduating Class of 2019 bid a fond farewell to their high school days at the Newell High School graduation Saturday.

Guest speaker Cheryl McCann, a math teacher with the Newell School District, spoke to the graduates and encouraged them to challenge and push themselves. Salutatorian Emma Olson summed up her optimistic outlook towards life after high school.

“We are left with the nerve-wracking feeling of leaving everything we know behind and jumping into something new and unknown,” Olson said. “But there’s something sweet about that, too. Because now we can reinvent ourselves to be who we want, and do what we want with our lives.”

Valedictorian Aryann Hoffer thanked her fellow seniors, teachers, and parents in her address to her classmates.

“I can see some great things coming from you all in the future,” she said. “You’ve all got some smarts, enough humor, a lot of passion, and it’s going to take you places.”

The Class of 2019 will be taking the world by storm with their class song “Don’t stop believing” by Journey; their class flower is tulip; their class colors are turquoise, silver, and black; and their class motto is “When it’s good it’s bad, when it’s bad it’s worse,” by anonymous.
