Cabs snarl Brussels traffic to protest services like Uber
BRUSSELS (AP) — Hundreds of cab drivers have snarled traffic in Brussels to protest the emergence of new services like Uber.
Brussels cab drivers are fearful a regional taxi plan will soon legalize Internet cab companies like Uber, which allow passengers to hail a rides from a mobile app. Taxi drivers, who have to invest in training and special permissions, say the competition is unfair.
Brussels taxi federation leader Pierre Steenberghen said the introduction of Uber would soon be “killing all the jobs of legal taxis who legally pay their taxes and so on.”
Similar protests have already happened in several other European cities.
