Man charged with stabbing woman sent for evaluation
BOSTON (AP) — A man charged with using scissors to stab a woman who had just finished a run along Boston’s Esplanade has been sent to a psychiatric facility for an evaluation.
Luis Olivo was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in connection with Friday’s stabbing, but was sent to Bridgewater State Hospital after a doctor told the judge he was “acutely psychotic.”
Police say the 37-year-old Olivo, who listed his home address as a shelter, attacked the 23-year-old woman as she walked along the Esplanade on Friday afternoon while wearing earbuds. He was chased down by a state trooper. The victim was treated at the hospital for a laceration to her head and other injuries.
Olivo’s attorney, Richard Noone, said his client is “not competent to make the right decision.”
