Grocery Outlet on Sprague Avenue closes after 29 years
A Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in Spokane has shuttered after nearly three decades of service.
The store at 4210 E. Sprague Ave. has been in operation since 1989.
Grocery Outlet Bargain Market launched in 1946 and expanded to more than 300 independently operated stores in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington, with three Spokane locations and two in Spokane Valley.
The closure follows an announcement made by the company in January to open more than 25 new stores in 2018, with 14 of those stores to open in Los Angeles.
A company spokesperson said the primary reason for the East Sprague store’s closure was because the aging building was becoming too costly to update.
