Citizens Against Government Waste Releases Comprehensive Waste Cutting Proposals for 116th Congress

February 19, 2019

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb 19, 2019--Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) released its . The report cuts through the clutter to outline important proposals for smaller and more efficient government.

After an annual deficit of $779 billion for fiscal year (FY) 2018 and a national debt of $22 trillion, it is long past time to correct this perilous fiscal course.

From civil service and regulatory reform to healthcare and defense spending, Critical Waste Issues for the 116th Congress details 18 policy areas that require immediate attention, including a chapter on the need for greater accountability, oversight, and transparency. Many of these recommendations have been considered in the past, while others have been largely ignored. But with the deficit and national debt skyrocketing and a new Congress setting their legislative priorities, now is the time to revisit these proposals and implement them immediately.

CAGW President Tom Schatz said, “Taxpayer advocates are often asked for specifics on how to identify and eliminate waste in the federal government. They can find answers in Critical Waste Issues. It should be required reading for every member of Congress and serve as a blueprint for reigning in out of control federal spending. The start of a new Congress is the perfect time to act on proposals that will begin to relieve America’s fiscal distress.”

Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, mismanagement and abuse in government.
