List of Recently Identified Vets
The Vietnam War is long past, but military efforts to account for America’s missing in action continue. According the Department of Defense, 2,093 who fought in Southeast Asia remain unaccounted for.
To make identifications, investigators combine a variety of clues, such as dental remains, personal effects, interviews with villagers and analyses of bones to estimate height. Once a tentative ID is made, investigators may try to match mitochondrial DNA in the bones to genetic material from a family member.
