Indians Make More Pitching Moves
CLEVELAND (AP) _ Continuing to retool their injury-ravaged pitching staff, the Cleveland Indians purchased the contract of right-hander Kane Davis from the minors on Thursday and optioned left-hander Mark Watson.
Davis signed a free agent contract with the Indians during the off-season after spending his entire career in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization. He began the year at Double-A Akron where he went 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in five starts. He was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo on May 21 and was 2-0 with a 3.32 ERA in three starts for the Bisons.
Watson made six appearances with the Indians since being promoted on May 18 when Cleveland placed three pitchers on the disabled list. He went 0-1 with a 8.53 ERA and pitched two-thirds of an inning in the Indians’ 9-5 win on Wednesday at Milwaukee.
The Indians currently have eight players _ six pitchers _ on the DL.
