Escaped inmate from North Carolina prison recaptured
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a minimum custody inmate at a North Carolina prison has been recaptured.
A news release from the N.C. Department of Public Safety says 24-year-old Clayton Campbell was captured without incident in Rocky Mount just after midnight on Friday.
Officials say Campbell escaped from an outside work assignment at the Caledonia unit on Thursday.
According to authorities, Campbell was convicted of identity fraud and theft in May 2015 and was scheduled for release this October.
Campbell, who now faces escape charges, will be demoted from Caledonia to one of the state’s higher security facilities.
