StudentUniverse’s Best Ticketing Day of All Time Occurs in 2018; Beats Record by 25%

January 17, 2019

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan 17, 2019--StudentUniverse, the world’s leading travel booking service for students and youth, announced today that 2018 has been another record-breaking year for the company. The company has broken year-over-year growth records each year since 2012, and Cyber Monday 2018 was the company’s top sales day ever, beating previous records by 25%.

Cyber Monday was a record-breaking day in more than just sales. The company saw the highest number of new members joining and searching in one day (up 16% and 17% YOY, respectively). StudentUniverse also saw huge wins for students on Cyber Monday, reporting the highest number of promo codes ever used in one day at 4,276 codes. The increase in sales, savings and promo codes for students is due in part to increased and expanded partnerships throughout 2018.

In 2018, StudentUniverse announced new partnerships with 8 carriers including Tunis Air, StarPeru, Kenya Airways, Interjet, Xiamen, Caribbean Airlines and more. StudentUniverse also expanded partnerships with no less than 15 partner airlines, including Turkish Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Virgin Australia and more. These expanded partnerships allow students to travel further and to new destinations, both domestically and internationally, with additional discounts. Students can now book exclusive discounted fares with over 220 airlines through StudentUniverse’s website and mobile apps.

“Our focus on offering student travelers a variety of travel options and discounts has continued to drive strong growth in our business. It’s exciting to be able to provide our customers with additional travel options. As our carriers and partners have grown and expanded, so have the discounts we’ve been able to offer. Students are responding in turn and it’s been exciting to see them traveling more and saving more at the same time,” said Mike Cleary, Global Managing Director, StudentUniverse. “We expect to see this growth continue in 2019 as StudentUniverse leads the way in travel booking services for students and youth.”

StudentUniverse continues to help students see the world for less. In 2018 alone, travelers booked trips to 1,171 cities through StudentUniverse. Expanded carriers and partner discounts have resulted in marked growth with bookings to more destinations: domestic bookings continued to grow with year over year growth of +9%, bookings to Canada and Mexico/the Caribbean have seen an increase of 13% growth year over year, bookings to Africa and the Middle East are up 31% and bookings to Australia and the South Pacific are up 77%. Plus, the company offered exclusive student-focused discounts on top of already discounted flights, saving travelers an additional $3.9 million.
