Pure Pleasure employee stabbed after confronting alleged shoplifter
STEWARTVILLE — A Pure Pleasure store employee was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being stabbed during a shoplifting incident at the adult store in Stewartville.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office was called to Pure Pleasure, 2727 Highway 63 N., just after 7 a.m. for a report of an employee who was stabbed after confronting a man for shoplifting, according to Sgt. Kirby Long.
A man and woman were in the store together and when they went to leave the building, the pair allegedly set off the anti-theft alarm, Kirby said. A male employee called the two back to the counter and the male customer allegedly pulled a sample cologne bottle out of his pocket.
The employee reportedly told the customer he was going to call police and the man took off running through the store and out of the building, Long said. The employee followed the man out and the two ended up wrestling in the parking lot.
At some point during the scuffle, the customer allegedly stabbed the employee in the thigh with a knife. The man then took off running and got into a car driven by the woman he was in the store with earlier, Long said.
The pair drove off in a car described as an older, gold-ish colored car with a dent in the side and a possible broken window, Long said.
The man is described as a scruffy white male with facial hair, about 30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with brown hair and wearing a white T-shirt, Long said.
The employee was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital — Saint Marys. The employee’s identity and condition were not available Wednesday morning.
Deputies still are investigating the incident and are hoping to review surveillance footage from the store later Wednesday, according to Long.
