5. Freshman football players in bowl game
5. The BYU football team has said it will play quite a few freshmen in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 21 in Boise, Idaho. What under-the-radar guy are you looking forward to seeing get more action?
DICKSON: With all the injuries at running back, we might see Tyler Allgeier against Western Michigan. I like his size and ability to hit the hole, at least what I’ve seen so far. I’ll be curious how much BYU runs the ball if the main backs are still not available next week. There has to be some kind of running game because Jeff Grimes loves balance from the offense.
Or maybe we get some crazy Wildcat formation with Jaren Hall at quarterback. I expect to see a little bit of creativity from Grimes in the bowl game.
LLOYD: For all the hype that has surrounded Zach Wilson, I’m still looking forward to seeing Jaren Hall continue to improve. BYU quarterbacks coach Aaron Roderick said earlier this week that he had focused on getting Hall more reps in practice because there simply hadn’t been time to do that during the regular season. Remember, even though both Wilson and Hall are freshmen, Wilson had twice as much time to learn the offense as Hall did. The former Maple Mountain star has a lot of upside and I think he’ll get the chance to show more of what he can do.
