No. 14 LSU Escapes Kentucky 70-69
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Doneeka Hodges hit a jumper with 23 seconds left and finished with 16 points, leading No. 14 LSU to its 14th straight victory, 70-69 over Kentucky on Sunday.
Seimone Augustus had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead LSU (15-2, 3-0 Southeastern Conference).
Sara Potts had 16 points and eight rebounds for Kentucky (8-8, 0-3). Jenny Pfeiffer scored 14, but had just three second-half points.
Hodge’s basket gave the Tigers a 70-67 lead before Potts scored to pull Kentucky within a point with four seconds left.
LSU’s Temeka Johnson missed a free throw with 2.3 seconds remaining, and battled Potts for the rebound. The ball bounced off Potts’ leg and out of bounds. LSU inbounded the ball and ran out the clock.
LSU played without Coach Sue Gunter, who missed the game because of the flu.
