Figure this 0: Matches lost this season by Jourdanton junior Lea Karren en route to winning the UIL Class 3A girls singles tennis state championship. She is her school’s first state champion in the sport.An exchange student from France, Karren won all seven tournaments she entered — District 30-3A, Region IV-3A, state, Lanier, Medina Valley and two events hosted by Jourdanton — and didn’t drop a set in doing so.Karren, who missed the early part of the season with an injury, lost three games in four matches at regionals and five games in three matches at state, including defeating three-time defending state champion Sara Humpal of Corpus Christi London 6-1, 6-3 in the final on May 17. She also topped Humpal at regionals.22: Area athletes chosen to participate in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Organization’s Senior Showcase, an all-star game for graduating players. The event, scheduled for May 18 in San Marcos, was canceled because of inclement weather.Making the Region IV boys squad were New Braunfels’ Ethan Hanson, Canyon Lake’s Matthew Bell, O’Connor’s John Camacho, Kerrville Tivy’s Stephen Canty and Jasen Zirkel, LEE’s Theo Gunter, Boerne’s Connor Walter, Reagan’s Uen Rodriguez and Isaiah McAlanis, Harlan’s Marco Hernandez, Warren’s Isaiah Simien, Johnson’s Ashton Bynum and New Braunfels Canyon’s Jake Martinez.
