January 23, 2019

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Forecasters say storms are spreading heavy rains and strong winds across parts of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings in southeastern Mississippi and southwestern Alabama on Wednesday after as much 4 inches of rain fell in spots.

The weather service says strong winds will spread from the Gulf Coast to northern Georgia, where sustained winds of 20 mph are likely with gusts to 35 mph.

Forecasters have issued a wind advisory for an area that includes much of metro Atlanta and extends into eastern Tennessee.

The weather service says isolated tornadoes and winds up to 60 mph are possible after dark in an area that includes Dothan in southeastern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle.
