Death Toll Rises
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) _ The death toll from Typhoon Thelma rose to 123 with the discovery of five more bodies, the National Counter-Disaster Center said Tuesday.
The typhoon battered the southern tip of the Korean peninsula last Thursday.
The center listed the number of missing at 212 and the number of homeless at 24,791. Officials said rescue and search operations would continue.
They said the final estimate on property losses and damage was about $272 million. Houses, highways, bridges and other public facilities were washed away or damaged.
The government announced Monday it would provide $237 million in aid for rehabilitation projects in connection with the typhoon.
