Non-life-threatening injuries in serious Route 8 crash in Seymour
SEYMOUR — A crash on Route 8 in Seymour has the highway’s northbound lanes shut down Thursday afternoon.
The crash involves a tractor-trailer truck and two other vehicles. Connecticut State Police said those involved in the collision suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
All lanes of northbound Route 8 are closed between Exits 19 (Wakelee Avenue in Ansonia) and 21 (Derby Avenue in Seymour).
Tony Terzi of Fox 61 tweeted: “What appears to be a pick up truck is sandwiched between an 18 wheeler and a box truck. This vicious crash has Rt 8 northbound shut down at exit 21 in #Seymour .”
The crash happened before a construction zone near Exit 22, the downtown Seymour exit.
For several weeks, the right lane has been closed as workers repair a degraded road condition near Exit 22. The initial work was during the overnight hours, but recently expanded into the daytime.
That work created heavy northbound backups with many motorists seeking alternative routes through downtown Seymour including Derby Avenue and Cedar Street.
Since the road is closed at Exit 21, drivers have few options to travel northbound.
