Winter comes early for Kentucky weather
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — With winter still officially more than a month away, a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow was falling throughout Kentucky, making driving conditions hazardous.
A tweet from Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King said freezing rain and sleet were falling in western Kentucky, freezing on overpasses and causing road conditions to deteriorate Wednesday evening. Troopers were working two wrecks on the Audubon Parkway.
Winter weather advisories were issued for much of western and central Kentucky. The National Weather Service said a light snow accumulation was possible late Thursday into early Friday for much of eastern Kentucky.
King said in a news release drivers should be prepared to encounter hazardous driving and frigid temperatures. He said the best advice is to avoid travel if possible.
