Library Gets Playboy on Microfilm, but Photos Still There
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) _ A library’s attempt to take the centerfold out of Playboy magazine by switching to the microfilm version has run into a problem - the photos are still there.
Under pressure by an anti-pornography group, the Grand Rapids Board of Library Commissioners voted Tuesday to stop buying print issues of Playboy and subscribe to the microfilmed version. At the time, members believed the photos were edited out of the microfilm version.
But board President Jeanette Hayes said Wednesday the adult magazine’s entire contents are there for the microfilm viewer.
The Michigan Decency Action Council had fought to make the magazine inaccessible to minors.
″Even with the photos, (the microfilm version) still is offering parents some more protection,″ council President Dar VanderArk said Thursday. ″But I will be contacting board members to see what can be done.″
