KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A mounted Kansas City police sergeant had a special surprise for a Kansas City boy whose beloved trading card featuring the sergeant's horse was destroyed in a washing machine mishap.

KMBC-TV reports that Sgt. Joey Roberts showed up Thursday with his horse at Fox Hill Elementary and summoned second-grader Robert Erpelding. The boy had carried a picture of Roberts' horse since meeting the Mounted Patrol eight months earlier and was devastated when it was destroyed.

Roberts said that that, "If Robert was attached to my horse's picture, Hey, I'm going to make sure he gets a replacement." The rest of Robert's class also got to the meet the horses.

Robert's mother, Samantha Erpelding, says her son is "in shock" and that she's relieved the card has been replaced.
