Historic Tie for Chelmsford High Rugby Team
CHELMSFORD -- The first-ever rugby match in Chelmsford High history ended in a 20-20 tie against Blue Hills in an MIAA Division 2 match at Simonian/Alumni Stadium on Tuesday.
The Lions trailed 15-0 after halftime before rallying.
“It was amazing,” said Chelmsford coach Jeff Parks. “We had a huge crowd. Lots of people turned out because of curiosity and the game’s historical component. It was a lot of fun. We were trailing 15-0 at halftime. But the guys got over their nerves, settled in and started playing better.”
Brandon Nordengren and Andrew Shore each scored two tries.
Aidan Trainor played well defensively and had some key tackles. Luke Harrison, David Hamilton and Patrick O’Neil played great games.
“We cut the deficit to 15-5 and then we were down 20-5,” said Parks. “But we kept coming back. If we hadn’t run of time we may have came all the way back and pulled it out. It was just a great game.”
