Rhode Island park bans people bringing chairs to concerts
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The manager of a Rhode Island park says a new ban on people bringing their own chairs to concerts is due to the possible security risk presented by chairs.
Officials at Bold Point Park in East Providence say the policy is not a response to any specific security threat, rather an effort to be proactive.
General Manager Kate Spaziano says chairs are “a serious area of concern,” because “we truly don’t know what’s in the chair.”
WPRI-TV reports the park has ordered chairs for people to rent during concerts, but will not have the chairs available for an upcoming concert.
Resident Kevin Oliver says chairs make life easier for him as he has undergone multiple surgeries, but says he was told accommodations could be made.
