East Central Okla 62, Azusa Pacific 60
TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Len Cooper scored 18 points and David Crittle added 13 Tuesday night as East Central Oklahoma rallied to upset 12th-seeded Azusa Pacific (Calif.) 62-60 in the opening round of the NAIA tournament.
East Central (22-5), trailing by seven points at the half, tied the game 53-53 with 5:30 remaining.
Crittle, who had seven rebounds, completed a three-point play to give the Tigers their first lead of the second half. ECU never trailed again, but had to survive an Azusa Pacific desperation shot with eight seconds left.
Azusa Pacific (26-8) built a 41-34 lead on the strength of Paul Perkins’ 16 first-half points. But ECU limited him to just four field goal attempts and no points in the second half.
Azusa Pacific went cold from the floor and went scoreless for 2 1/2 minutes late in the game.
