Residents, firefighters hurt in Pittsfield duplex fire

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two residents and two firefighters were hurt in a blaze that destroyed a western Massachusetts home.

Authorities say two residents of the Pittsfield duplex were taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation from the fire reported at about 6 p.m. Sunday.

Five people lived in the home.

Two firefighters were also checked out at the hospital, one with a knee injury. A dog died in the fire and a cat is missing.

No names were released.

Pittsfield firefighters were helped at the scene by crews from Lenox, Hinsdale and Dalton helped out.

The fire appears to be accidental but the cause remains under investigation. The home was gutted and appears to be a total loss.
