Roger Espenson -- West Concord

Roger Eugene Espenson, 82, of West Concord, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at Cottagewood Senior Communities.

He was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Montevideo, the son of Leonard and Clara (Nelson) Espenson. Roger graduated from Montevideo High School. He served nine years in the National Guard. While serving in the National Guard, he attended Cosmetology School in Rochester, where he met his future wife.

Roger married Judith Bruzek May 8, 1961, in Rochester. The couple moved to West Concord in 1963, where they operated a beauty shop together. Roger was then able to attend Barber school and work nights. He operated his own Barber Shop in West Concord and later in Dodge Center until his retirement in 2014.

Roger served on the West Concord Fire Department for 25 years. He was a former member of the Midnight Riders Snowmobile Club in West Concord and the Eagle’s Club in Owatonna. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed his John Deere tractors, spending time outdoors and cutting firewood.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Espenson of West Concord; son, Doug Espenson of West Concord; foster son, Bill (Kathy) Krause of Cornucopia,Wis.; grandsons, Nathan (Danielle) Espenson and Brent Espenson; great-grandsons, Ayden and Bentley.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Espenson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Niehaus officiating. Interment will be in the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in West Concord.
