WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) _ Joe Hewitt scored twice in the first half as Army, the last of the nation’s 111 major colleges to open the season, overcame a two-touchdown deficit and beat Ohio University 37-20 Saturday afternoon.

Hewitt, who led Army with 90 yards as the Cadets ran for 324, scored twice on 2-yard runs as the Cadets turned a 14-0 deficit into a 21-14 halftime lead. The Cadets had scoring drives of 67, 89, 78 and 84 yards in keeping the Bobcats (2-1) from their first 3-0 start in 20 years.

Quarterback Kareem Wilson, who attempted only eight passes in Ohio’s first two games, surprised Army by going 3-for-3 for 34 yards on the game’s first series. The third was a 12-yard TD to Karim Hill.

On the next series, Steve Hookfin took an inside handoff 63 yards for a score.

After Hewitt’s first TD, Army tied it on a 4-yard run by Rashad Hodge. Ron McAda’s 28-yard pass to Ron Leshinski set up Hewitt’s second TD run, which gave Army a 21-14 halftime lead.

The Army defense put the game away in the third period. Five minutes into the third quarter, Wilson was tackled in the end zone for a safety. On the next series, he was hit in the backfield by tackle C.W. Estes and fumbled. Linebacker Brandon Tilford picked it up and ran 19 yards to gove Army a 30-14 lead.
